red rocks | paradise valley, arizona

Nestled into a rich, red granite niche on the slopes of Camelback Mountain, this geographically challenging site features stunning views of the Salt River Valley. Creating visually stunning gathering spaces that take advantage of the expansive views was the intent of the design and materiality was envisioned as an extension of the architecture to create a continuity between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Limestone pavers and acid-etched concrete create a clean and timeless look that compliments the interior materials while lending their elegance to the contrast of the garden area.

The existing retaining walls on the property were incorporated into the design adding to the challenges of landscape. A stepped citrus grove was conceived to include the existing curved wall and to also handle the elevation changes, stepping down into an intimate garden dining room with commanding views. Along the entry walkway, at-grade planting beds are interlaced with a reflecting water feature that flows around a linear fire feature and into an elegant spa.  The water feature and spa sheet flow down into the infinity pool that sits on a terrace below creating a harmonious space, rich in architectural lines, organic components and the cascading sound of water.
